Girl Mocked for Calling Charles & Keith a Luxury Brand Ends Up as Its Ambassador

At the start of 2023, a girl in Singapore made headlines for being mocked online after she referred to local fashion house Charles & Keith as a “luxury brand”.

Going by @zohtaco on TikTok, the girl named Zoe Gabriel gained tons of traction for her post calling out commenters who made fun of her after she received and unboxed her first “luxury” handbag — a Charles & Keith gifted to her by her father.

Explaining her humble background, she explained how she “didn’t have much growing up”, and was adamant that a S$80 (US$59.50) Charles & Keith handbag was a luxury to her and her family.

Subsequently, her heartfelt TikTok retort ended up racking up a huge amount of comments, most of which were supportive, and the virality of the video even ended up getting her a chance to meet the founders of the brand over a lunch at its headquarters.

Fast-forward a couple of months, and Zoe has now upgraded to becoming a community ambassador for the brand.

On both hers and the official Charles & Keith Instagram accounts, a photo was posted up of Zoe modeling one of the brand’s most popular products — an Alia bag in purple.

On the post by the official brand account, it was also stated that the purple Alia bag was launched in support of UN Women’s “Storytelling for Gender Equality” program, and the post was accompanied by a personal note by the TikToker-turned-model specially written for International Women’s Day 2023.
